SWFL in the Summer

It’s summer time in Southwest Florida. It’s hot. It’s sunny. There’s a thunderstorm nearly every day. But, the roads, restaurants, beaches, and stores are less crowded, so that’s a good thing! Despite it being “off season,” people live and thrive in SWFL year round, and there is plenty to check out, experience, and explore in this area. Whether you want to grab something delicious for dinner or looking for something more active to do, this area has something for you. No matter your age, you can enjoy the activities and establishments SWFL has to offer – this area truly is a paradise.

Below I’ve put together a list of some of the top things to do in SWFL, whether you live here now, want to live here, or just like to visit some times. Treat yourself to some fun in the sun and around town in the area before summer comes to an end!

  1. Take a trip to Thomas Edison and Henry Ford’s estate in Fort Myers. The grounds are gorgeous with beautiful gardens and scenery. There are several different tours to choose from both inside the homes and outside on the properties. If you’re looking for an historically rich trip, this is the place to go!
  2. Could go for a cold beer? Instead of just going to the bar, check out a local brewery like Point YBel Brewing Company, Fort Myers Brewing Co., Fat Point Brewing, Old Soul Brewing, and Momentum Brewhouse.   3. Explore the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve in Florida or the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples. The Slough is more than 3,400 acres of wetland filled with a diverse population of plants and animals. People can spot beautiful botanical gardens here, as well as some endangered animals. In Corkscrew, you can walk on a 2.5-mile boardwalk that will talk you through pine flatwood wet prairie and marsh. You can see gators, otters, turtles, and more in here.
  4. Check out the hottest summer blockbusters at the Prado Stadium 12 in Bonita Springs. This theater has reserved seating, reclining seats, a bear and liquor menu, and a restaurant.
  5. Visit the Ortiz Avenue Flea Market in Fort Myers. It offers visitors the chance to see around 600 vendors indoors and out.
  6. Bite into a delicious maple bacon doughnut at Bennett’s Fresh Roast in Fort Myers. You won’t regret it.
  7. Want to shop till you drop? Check out the Sanibel Outlets in Fort Myers where you can get great deals at stores like Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, Under Armour, Calvin Klein, ADIDAS, Loft Outlet, and more!
  8. Visit the Koreshan State Historic Site in Estero. At this Florida State Park, you can learn about the Utopian religious group that settled here while having a picnic, boating, hiking, exploring exhibits, buildings, and more.
  9. Take your pup to the Dog Beach at Lovers Key State Park in Fort Myers Beach.
  10. Get a cool treat at SubZero Ice Cream & Yogurt in Naples. Here, the ice cream is made right in front of you with liquid nitrogen.
