How to Make your House a Home
Posted on Aug 6, 2015
A new home screams starting fresh. But a house isn’t a home until you make it yours. Here are three suggestions to make sure your home is where the heart is.
Decide what type of style you want to bring to your space
There must have been something special about your new home that popped or stuck with you when you originally decided you wanted to purchase it. Walk around one more time, spend time in each room and envision what type of space you’d like it to be. Think about what kind intention you want the room to have and what type of experiences you’d like to have there. Get excited, it’s time to bust out the design books.
Some people swear by sage
A bundle of dried sage or a smudge stick can help rid your home of old and stale energy—that is, if you believe in that sort of thing. In Latin, sage means “to heal.”
You’ll need a fire-safe bowl and a cup of water. Open all doors and windows. Light the sage. Once it catches fire, blow it out. You want it to smolder. Hold the bowl underneath the sage to catch any stray ash. Slowly walk through each room of your home, making sure the smoke billows everywhere. When you’re finished, put out the stick in the water and breathe in a sigh of relief.
Plants are an instant perk me up
Plants not only look nice, they also help keep air clean. A rubber plant, according to a study done by NASA, is one of the top houseplants for removing air pollutants. Fresh flowers in the kitchen and dining room are always nice. Also, make sure to water them every day. You want them to be happy, don’t you?
